Gone Girl and The Good Guy

I love the movie Gone Girl. I’m just going to start there. I know the last couple weeks have seen a surfeit of click-ably titled stories about the film’s “women” problem or “rape” problem. And a few weeks before the movie even came out a well-known writer of crime fiction WHO SHALL REMAIN NAMELESS because he was just talking after an event I attended and had no reason to believe anyone anywhere was quoting him, told me that he thought the BOOK Gone Girl was disgusting and misogynistic and that Gillian Flynn had basically done a disservice to her gender by writing it.
